Hoo-Ah! Alfredo James Pacino (Al Pacino) was born in New York on April 25th 1940. His early life was troubled and he admits to starting smoking and drinking at the age of nine years old. His desire to be an actor from a young age caused problems with his mother who did not agree with his choice, so he left home. As a teenager, Al Pacino, was rejected by the Actors Studio but later joined the HB Studio where he met mentor and best friend Charlie Laughton. He spent a lot of this period of his life unemployed and homeless, sleeping in theaters, friends houses and sometimes on the street.
His role in 1971 film The Panic In Needle Park saw him catch the attention of director Francis Ford Coppola who then cast him as Michael Corleone in the 1972 blockbuster film, The Godfather. Coppola’s choice for Pacino to get the role didn’t go down well with studio executives who wanted somebody more well known (Jack Nicholson, Robert Redford, Warren Beatty and Robert De Niro had also tried for the part). This role was Pacino’s big break and saw him earn an academy award nomination.
From here Pacino went on to star in other blockbuster films such as:
This is only a short list of some of the incredible movies that Al Pacino has starred in and won nominations and awards for. Some of his most recent work includes The Irishman, House Of Gucci and Amazon series, Hunters. So now you know a little bit more about the man, what about the memorabilia? This is very subjective when it comes to actors, musicians, and people within the performing arts world because one person’s favourite film or album, could be unliked by somebody else, so really it comes down to what’s your favourite movie that Al Pacino has been in? The Godfather and Scarface (Michael Corleone and Tony Montana) – These are arguably Pacino’s greatest and most iconic characters. If you can get a genuine autographed movie prop then you’ve hit the jackpot, but failing that, something iconic from that movie signed by Pacino is the next best thing. A signed fedora from the Godfather, a signed gun from Scarface, something like this is a great display piece. Our advice on these movies would be to avoid The Godfather Part 3, while it may be your favourite, it’s the least liked of the trilogy and resale would always be more difficult than the other two films from the franchise. Photographs – Photographs from your favourite movie of Pacino’s are always going to be a great thing to get hold of, display, enjoy and talk about, but the best advice we can give here is get the best signature you possibly can. While this might sound obvious, Al Pacino can have a very rushed and short signature, full signatures are hard to find, but worth the time and money then it comes to resale value because your item will stand out as something special above all the others available. While Al Pacino has not been the most successful actor in terms of awards (although he is part of a small group that has achieved the “Triple Crown” which is an Academy Award, Tony Award and an Emmy Award), his films, performances, catchphrases and characters have stood the test of time, just as the man himself. His portrayal of a Cuban political prisoner who goes on to be a drug lord in the United States is enjoyed as much today as it was when it was released. The movies and the man have aged well, he is beloved by film fans, critics, fellow actors and everybody within the screen and stage industry. Score – 94/100 |
